This design was created by an anonymous youth participant in First Light's 2025 Orange Shirt Day T-Shirt Design Contest. The words say it simply and powerfully: Remember the Children. Honour the Survivors. Speak the Truth.
By wearing this shirt, you are carrying that message forward: honouring those impacted by the residential school system and making it clear that Every Child Matters.
Orange Shirt Day and the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation are opportunities to honour Survivors, remember the children who never returned home, recognize the ongoing impacts of the residential school system, and recommit ourselves to truth and reconciliation.
At First Light, wearing orange is not simply symbolic. It is part of our responsibility to remember, learn, create space for Indigenous voices, and contribute to meaningful change.
Proceeds from First Light's Orange Shirt campaign designated for the Residential School Memorial Garden will support the development of this important space at our new home at 40 Quidi Vidi Road.
The Memorial Garden is envisioned as a permanent place for remembrance, reflection, ceremony, learning, and community connection. As planning for the garden progresses alongside the completion of our new home, First Light will continue to share updates with the community about its development and the use of funds raised in support of the project.
